Movie Poster research

Generic Movie posters post 1990s
Generic horror movie posters tend to use the colour red as it connotes danger. They also use low key lighting and dark colours like black to create a dark and evil atmosphere. There is also a common theme of having a recognizable icon such as Jason's hockey mask.  Body parts such as hands and legs, Extreme close ups of eyes can be disturbing.


Generic Movie posters pre 1990s
The classic posters tend to be drawn and cartoon style, they also involve bright colours contrasted by dark tones. Medium close ups and long shots are used for the posters, however some show weapons or close up on body parts such as the rocky horror picture show.


Zombie Movie posters
Less generic conventions  however red features in all. They all show a zombie or part of a zombie such as a hand. Hands are common in zombie posters and in post 1990s posters close ups on body parts, in my poster I will use a close up of a zombie body part. Zombie movie posters tend not to be very dark, they are shadowed however also involve bright colours.
